Six young members of a group returning from a walk in Labadie, on the outskirts of Cap-Haitien (north), died in the sinking of the ship that carried them on Sunday night, as confirmed the Maritime and Navigation Service of Haiti (Semanah).

The agency told local media that rescue teams could, nevertheless, assist 14 people in an afternoon in which the waves on the north coast were very violent, witnesses said.

Moreover, one person died, four were missing and 20 survived the sinking of another ship in the bay of Port au Prince, said Semanah.

The wreck, due to engine failure, according to testimony, occurred on Saturday after leaving the boat to the island of La Gonave with 25 people aboard.
