Owl (Bubo bubo)

Did you know?

That the owl takes its prey on the ground or in flight? They prefer to hunt in open spaces and eat almost anything that moves. Their diet includes voles, rats, mice, foxes, birds, crows, ducks, grouse, sea birds, snakes, lizards, frogs, fish, crabs and sometimes even other owls.

The Owl is an extremely powerful bird. The length of an adult is about 66-71 cm. It is the largest species of owl with a wingspan of up to 2 meters. The adult owl can weigh up to 4 kilograms. The size, ear tufts and orange eyes make this owl very distinctive.

Males and females are similar in appearance and size, but the ear tufts of the male Bubo bubo are more vertical than those of the female which are generally fallen down.
