Everyone can help reduce global warming by adapting numbers of precautions and help bring advantages to the environment.

Reducing the waste greatly contributes in the reduction of global warming. Every person should adopt the use of reusable products instead of biodegradable products that may harm the environment. Recycling also helps reduce global warming, everyone should recycle plastic, paper, cans, and glass whenever its possible. It is reported by some sources that by recycling half of your household waste, you can save almost 2,400 pounds of carbon dioxide annually.

Less use of Heat and Air Conditioning can also help reduce global warming. Less and driving in a smart way also helps keeps 20 pound of carbon dioxide out of atmosphere. Use of less hot water can also help reduce global warming.

Moreover, planting a tree plays an important role in reducing Global warming because during photosynthesis, trees and other plants absorb carbon dioxide and give off oxygen. A single tree will absorb almost one ton of carbon dioxide during its lifetime which will reduce global warming.

However, sharing knowledge of something good is a great deed. We should also tell, and encourage others about recycling and energy conservation, and should also encourage public officials to make the programs and policies that are good and brings advantages to the environment.

Everything in this world is somehow covered in a sheath for protection. In same way the world is protected from the harmful rays of sun by a sheath of its own the ozone layer. But the bad news here is that it is depleting at an alarming rate of 4 per cent per decade.

This decreament in the content of ozone and thinning of ozone can cause sun burns, skin diseases, skin cancer, cataract and other eye diseases, infections and reduces immunity of human bodies, decrease in growth of vegetation and plants, loss of nutritional values and danger to sea life and ecosystem. Refrigerators, air conditioners, perfumes are the substances, that are having the choloroflorocarbon, are the culprits of this awful crime.

Ozone in upper enviroment works as a protection of the world but at ground level, ozone can be unhealthy—in fact certain factors of it mix up and forms a dangerous element called “smog.” Smog formation requires three ingredients:
             1) Nitrogen oxides, which come almost from man-made)sources such as automobile exhaust and power plants and all smoke producing things.

            2) Sunlight; and

            3) Volatile organic compounds (VOCs), both naturally occurring and man-made.

The main ODS (ozone depleting substances) that has been highlighted in  the Montreal Protocol are chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs), halons, carbon tetrachloride and methyl bromide. However with increasing awareness,  the global consumption of ODS has been reduced by some 98% since countries has started to  take the Montreal Protocol on a serious note. And in lights of that the atmospheric concentration of the most aggressive types of ODS is reducing and the ozone layer is showing some recovery. Nevertheless, it is not expected to recover fully, even if same protocol is followed, before the second half of this century.

Although whatever we do, may be or may not be insignificant but it is vital all the same. We may do just a little bit in making things right but our efforts add up to a lot! In the same manner, protecting wildlife is one of our major responsibilities and we should feel concern towards that.

There are so many ways of protecting wildlife, for instance, their habitat should be protected. Over-grazing, deforestation, farming should be avoided in order to protect their habitat. By protecting habitat, the entire species of the particular animal could be saved together. then secondly, every individual should be a part of conservation organizations, working to protect endangered animals and habitats. By recycling and reusing we can reduce our impact on the environment. We could even take pesticide-free pledge, that is, herbicides and pesticides may keep yards looking good but they are in fact hazardous pollutants that affect wildlife at many levels.

Threat of invasive species should be reduced. We can even help reduce the number of collisions by placing decals on the windows in your home or any other place. Slow down while driving if you see any animal attempting to cross from one side to the other. so when you are out and about, you should keep an eye out for wild life and slow down if you happen to see any. Get involved locally and voice your concerns. This may sound extreme but if you are really concerned then change your career and work for the noble cause of saving species.

Share your zeal and enthusiasm for nature and wildlife with others and encourage them to do the same so that we could this world a better place to live in!

In the past few decades, the issue of changing global climate has been transformed into a dilemma. The primary way human contributes to this global warming is by burning fossil fuels. This combustion of fuels leads to increased amount of carbon dioxide emitted in the atmosphere, which in turn leads to increased Greenhouse Effect. Of course, the more energy used, the more greenhouse gases are emitted; the more humans cause global warming. Perhaps, it is rightly quoted “No animal has contributed to global warming as significantly as man has.” Some of the chief activities that contribute to the global warming are:

 

When You Drive

A large portion of carbon emission is attributed to the burning of gasoline in engines of vehicles. The combustion of gasoline releases nitrous oxide too, which is again a greenhouse gas.

 

When You Eat Meat and Exotic Foods

Eating food that is shipped long distances, adds to greenhouse gas emissions as it travels over 1000 miles before reaching you. Eating beef and drinking milk also adds to greenhouse gases, since cows emit significant amounts of methane, a greenhouse gas even more efficacious than carbon.

Land conversion

When farms and forests disappear, the land loses the ability to absorb greenhouse gases, and emissions from other activities have an even greater effect.

In our world today, pollution has become a daunting issue in our environment today because many people have failed to understand the need to preserve our planet’s environment. There are different ways to ensure we protect the earth through our activities.

Can you imagine us having us having 800 million cars around the world, what the impact of exhaust fumes released from these cars will bring to the environment? If you own a car, you have to be responsible for reducing the pollution problem in the environment.

A way to reduce pollution in the environment is to use vehicles less often especially if you live close to your school or workplace. It doesn’t hurt if you walk to your workplace or use a bike. It helps keep you in good shape and also reduces pollution into the atmosphere.

Also turn off the car engine when it is not in use, and use the car park while waiting for your turn in a drive-through diner. You also save on the gas consumed by the car.

Maintaining you vehicle also helps to reduce air pollution. Keeping check of your tires and making sure that they are inflated properly also helps reduce the pollution it releases into the atmosphere. This also improves the friction between the tires.

Further, when you are at home, put off appliances that are not in use. Lights, air conditioners, warmers and any appliances in rooms where there’s no one in it should be turned off.

Glaciers are amazing nature’s process and an even more spectacular sight to behold. Glaciers are made of compressed fallen snow, packed into thick masses of crystallized ice. Fallen snow packed on top of the other and under their own weight, glaciers can move and slide downwards towards lower area.

In recent years, glaciers have been melting faster than they usually do. Glaciers have always melted to a certain amount due to warmer weather like during summer. However, because of global warming and an increase of the average temperature, glaciers are melting rapidly and in some places have gone entirely. When warmer water melts glaciers faster than they can accumulate, there will be no more glaciers to replace the existing ones that are used as source of freshwater and electricity by some communities in the world.

Why are glaciers so important? They are just thick sheets of ice moving slowly, aren’t they?

When glaciers melt, the water will flow from the streams and rivers and into the ocean. When this happens, the water level in the ocean will rise. Coastal areas will flood and homes will be destroyed. Farmlands that are situated at lower lands will also be flooded and the crops will be gone. This will disrupt our way of life and our source of living. When all the water flows into the ocean, the streams and river will dry up and the people who use water from these water sources will suffer from shortage of water supply.

Increase in global average temperature has caused dire consequences on glaciers. It’s a phenomenon that needs to be addressed before more serious problems occur.
