Agreed Initiative for Climate Protection


Berlin – German Development Minister Dirk Niebel and World Bank President, Jim Yong Kim, have agreed on a joint initiative to protect the climate. The federal government would in the current year grant ten million euro grant for a new fund, Niebel said after meeting with Kim in Berlin on Tuesday. The fund to be created should help developing countries by, among other advice, to use funds from the new, global Green Climate Fund (GCF).

“I am pleased that Mr. Kim accepted our offer and stated his readiness to jointly look for additional sponsors on the lookout,” said Niebel. Germany is currently bidding with the city of Bonn to host the headquarters of the Green Climate Fund. The role of the GCF is to provide financial resources to developing countries to climate-friendly remodel their economies.
